I believe if you read on after this quote in the book that you would know exactly what he meant. Right after that he says "I was a lier, a cheat, and a thief" (pg 105) by him saying he wasn't worthy of this sacrifice then going on a and saying he was a lier, hes just basically saying that he doesn't deserve somebody doing something good for him. He is unworthy of somebody risking something for him.
