"The wars had made fathers a rare commodity in Afghanistan." (245)
During the war it was men that went out to fight. They were looked at and called out to fight for their country and to keep their families safe. Afghanistan like many countries in this sence because when there is a war they look for men to stand up and fight. With war deaths come, so if fathers are the ones fighting the war. It is them dying and being injured and going missing. So there was less fathers around in the time of wars.
"A boy who cant stand up for himself becomes a man who can't stand up for anything."
Babe says on page 22 "A boy who can't stand up for himself become a man who can't stand up for anything." Do you agree or disagree? Explain.
I do agree with what Babe says because when you become accustomed to something that's what you constantly do. Trying to change something as big like that is extremely hard. So when going from not defending yourself to defending yourself and standing up for something. It's either people are going to take you as a joke or you just wont have the courage to change peoples perception of you. I believe you should always stand up for yourself and for what you believe in so that people do not take advantage of you and try to walk all over you. Baba says this because he wants Amir to stand up for himself and what he believes in. What he says is really deep because trying to break the mold of who you are and what your trying to become is hard.

The Difference
What’s in the movie, but has been changed slightly? Why do you think this is? Do you think it is good or bad? Why?
In the book it says that Soraya told Amir about her past about how she ran away with some guy without her fathers consent while on the phone. Where in the movie Soraya tells Amir this in person, I believe that the director choose to make this change for dramatic effect. I believe that it was a good idea because when telling someone something in person its much better because you can see the actual emotion where on the otherhand if your saying something to someone over text, phonecall or email its much eaiser to fake it. When Soraya told Amir it showed that he truly cared for her and that he loved her unconditionally .

Daily Prompt for 2/8/2010
Question ; At the end of Chapter 1 the narrator says, "And made me what i am today." Think about experiences you've had that have shaped you into who you are today. Write about one of them.
There are many things in my life both positive and negative that have shaped me into who I am today. One of the positive things I believe is when i went to North Carolina with the organization World Changers. We helped build wheelchair ramps for the disabled and it really made me a more open and generous person. Daily things like my religion, family and friends have also shaped me into a better person today.
